The City of Sanibel will begin road striping repair work on Monday, August 30, 2010. Every effort will be made to minimize any inconvenience to the public. Access to residences and businesses will be maintained at all times. The public is reminded to use caution when traveling through a construction zone.

City Requests Letters of Support for Lighthouse Painting Project

The City is looking to apply for a State Historic Preservation Grant to assist in funding the proposed Lighthouse Painting and Maintenance Project. This project is critical to preservation of this historic landmark. Letters of support for the project are required to be submitted as part of the grant application.

City of Sanibel Notified by Lee County Mosquito Control of Aerial & Ground Spray Activity for ALL of Sanibel Island Tonight

The Lee County Mosquito Control District (LCMCD) provides mosquito control for Sanibel and all of Lee County. The LCMCD will deploy its’ ground spray trucks and helicopter aircraft this evening from 9 p.m. tonight until 2:00 a.m. tomorrow morning for all of Sanibel Island.

Upcoming American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification Course at the Sanibel Recreation Center

A 3-day course in which participants will be trained as Professional Rescuers in lifeguarding, first aid, and adult, child and infant CPR / AED use.

Lee County Emergency Management Testing New Public Notification System Wednesday, August 18, 2010

Lee County Emergency Management, Lee County Sheriff’s Office, the Lee County Port Authority and the cities of Fort Myers and Sanibel recently signed a contract with Emergency Communications Network to lease its CodeRED high-speed emergency notifications system. CodeRED, already in place in Cape Coral and Fort Myers Beach, now geographically covers all of Lee County to allow residents to receive health and safety alerts.

As part of the on-going Community Restoration effort in Clam Bayou, the Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation (SCCF) is seeking volunteers to plant red mangrove seedlings in the Bayou.
