FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE WITH BAILEY’S GENERAL STORE AND BAILEY’S TRUE VALUE HARDWARE STORE
Bailey's General Store and Bailey's True Value Hardware Store join our New Year's Eve Sponsors.
Sanibel Packing Company d/b/a Bailey’s General Store, 2477 Periwinkle Way, was established in 1899 by Bailey patriarch Frank P. Bailey. The names Bailey and Sanibel are synonymous. Frank P. Bailey and his brothers Ernest and Harry began the Sanibel Packing Company n/d/b/a Bailey’s General Store. Francis and Sam continue this tradition. Francis is a very active 88 and is married to June. Francis is one of the first volunteer Sanibel Firefighters. He is the longest serving City Councilman at 19 years. He was a Mayor of Sanibel. Francis is also a founding SanCap Lions member. His younger brother Sam Bailey is an active 85 year old who played pro football and pro baseball. Sam was 5 for 5 at bats in June in a softball game at the City field. Sam will tell you he hit the ball out of the park when he married Cookie in 1951. A favorite saying of Sam is “If we don’t have it, you don’t need it.”
Now third generation Richard Johnson is the manager of this enterprise. Richard is the past president of the Lions and a tireless worker. Richard is married to Mary Mead whom Richard tells will help him continue the Bailey tradition. Richard and Mary have three children; Calli who begins U of F this summer, Bailie Francis who is attending school in Fort Myers, and Dane, a Sanibel Middle School student. You can learn more about this extraordinary family by reading Sam’s recently published book “A Sanibel Son Looks Back”. The Bailey General Store is open daily from 7am – 9pm.
The signs held by Francis, Sam and Richard are $195. Sam Bailey is personally donating $530 so that a child can attend the after school program for one year. This is the second year Sam has generously made this donation
You can become a sponsor by purchasing a 24 x 32 sign for $195 or a 24 x 18 sign for $135. Signs may be purchased anonymously. Proceeds from the sale of signs help our island worker so their children can attend the City of Sanibel Recreation After School Program, fun days at the Center when school is closed and summer camp at the Center.
