Weatherization Assistance Available to Eligible Sanibel Home Owners

The City of Sanibel has been notified by the Lee County Department of Human Services that Lee County has been awarded $1,279,680 to assist families through the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act Weatherization Assistance Program.

The mission of the program is to reduce the monthly energy burden on low-income households by improving the energy efficiency of the home. This program identifies areas of major energy loss within the home. Structures are made weather-tight through minor necessary repairs including:

· Insulation
· Weather-stripping
· Caulking· Replacing door thresholds and broken window glass
· Cooling and Heating units· Minor structural repairs

This program is available to homeowners or persons who are renting, with preference given to the following:

· Persons 60 years of age or older
· Disabled individuals
· Households with children under 12 years of age
· A household with a family member receiving Supplemental Social Security Income (SSI) or Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) qualifies regardless of household income
· Owner-occupied Units
