COMMUNITY ALERT Suspicious Incident Follow – Up
On Saturday August 23, 2008, the Sanibel Police Department received a report regarding a suspicious incident involving an older man engaging young children in conversation.
The Police Department received information that led to the person who spoke to the children. Through conversations with the man, the Police Department has determined that there was no intent to commit a crime. The man has no criminal history and has never been in trouble with law enforcement.
Although this incident did not evolve into a crime, this is a good reminder for children to remain guarded when strangers attempt to initiate conversations with them and to report these incidents immediately to their parents.
This is also a good reminder for adults to be cognizant that initiating random conversations with children not know to you may cause parents and law enforcement to consider this activity suspicious.
