Hurricane Ike - Advisory #4 - 10:30 a.m. September 8, 2008

Hurricane Ike is currently 450 miles southeast of Sanibel traveling west at 14 mph and a west to west-northwest motion is expected over the next day or two.

Hurricane Ike is expected to enter into the southeastern Gulf of Mexico by late Tuesday after moving through Cuba today.

Sustained maximum winds are near 100 mph. Hurricane force winds extend outward up to 60 miles and tropical storm winds extend outward up to 200 miles. Sanibel can expect winds today through Wednesday from the east or northeast at around 15 mph with higher gusts to 30 mph. Scattered showers and thunderstorms may produce upwards of one to two inches of rain in isolated squalls today through Wednesday.

The City of Sanibel will continue to monitor Hurricane Ike until the threat or any impact to Sanibel has totally diminished. City of Sanibel also urges residents, business owners and visitors to also monitor Hurricane Ike for any changes as we may experience the effects of the outer bands of this storm.
